Tank & Breaker

About Tank & Breaker

Plain answers about the equipment that keeps a house running on its own water and power.

Who runs the site

Tank & Breaker is published by the Tank & Breaker team. Founded by Max Maximov.

We started it because most help for these systems online is either a sales page or a long forum thread. We wanted one place that tells a homeowner what is probably wrong, what they can safely check themselves, and what a fix should cost, with every number traced back to where it came from.

What we cover, and what we don't

We cover private wells and well pumps, pressure tanks and switches, water heaters (tank, tankless and heat pump), water softeners and filters, water quality and testing, and backup power for the home.

We don't do the work. We don't sell equipment, and we don't send a technician to your house. We explain how things work and which checks are safe for an owner. When a job needs a licensed plumber, electrician or well contractor, the page says so and says why.

Pages on water heaters, wells and pumps, softeners and water quality are checked by a plumbing and heating professional. You can read how that works on our editorial policy and reviewers pages. Electrical and generator pages are still waiting for an electrician to check them, and they are labeled that way.

How the site is paid for

Right now the site earns nothing. Two ways of paying for it are planned:

  • Quotes from local pros: you could ask for a quote on some pages, and the pro would pay us for the referral. Status: not active yet.
  • Affiliate links: some parts links would pay us a small commission if you buy. Status: not active yet.

Neither one will change what a page tells you to check, buy or skip. The disclosures page has the details and will be updated before either program starts.
